Accelerated Reader
Your child takes Accelerated Reader (AR) Quizzes at school. These will continue throughout the year. Your child needs you, the parent, to do a few things at home to make this program a success for him/her.
1. Have your child read AR books at home. To determine if a book is an AR book go to arbookfind.com. (Write down the Quiz # that it gives)
2. After your child has read the book, discuss the details and sequence of events in the book.
3. Send the yellow slip with the quiz # to school with your child the next day. Put this note is in your child’s blue communication folder. (Your child will be entering the quiz # to take a quiz on the book some time that day.)
4. Strongly encourage your child to take quizzes and strive toward reaching their AR goal for the trimester. Consider rewarding them for progress toward their goal! Their reading success is like making a deposit in towards their future success.
AR goals are reset each trimester. You can see your child’s goal and progress on the Renaissance website. If you went to Back to School Night, you should have received your child's Renaissance username and password as well as the Renaissance website address. If you didn't go to Back to School Night, you should have received the login information from your first grader's teacher. Please contact them if you did not receive it.
