Body Systems We Study:
Digestive system- Food Factory: It breaks down the food we eat.
Circulatory system- My heart Pumps blood around my body; it includes my heart, blood, and blood vessels.
Nervous system- Sends messages to and from the brain through nerves.
Muscular system- Moves me and pulls my bones, some muscles are voluntary and others are involuntary.
Skeletal system- Gives me shape and protects my organs, it is my support system.
Part I - Human Body Knowledge
My muscles help me move. Voluntary muscles are muscles you choose to move.
Organs are parts of the body that have an important job. Most are inside of you.
Not all of your organs are INSIDE of your body. Your skin is on the OUTSIDE of your body!
The skeleton is made of 206 bones that support your body. It is frame for your body.
Digestion breaks down food for the body to use.
Blood vessels are a part of your circulatory system and are tubes that transport blood around your body.
The nervous system includes the brain and nerves.
Messages are sent to the brain through your nerves.
Washing your hands before you eat will wash away germs and keep you healthy.
A healthy person is someone who does NOT get a lot of diseases.
Eat a balanced diet to stay healthy.
Part II- Vocabulary
Voluntary- when you choose to do something; raising your hand is voluntary
Involuntary- when you don't knowingly choose to do something; breathing is involuntary
Nutritious- food that is good for you, healthy
Support-your bones support your body
Complicated- complex; has interconnecting parts, not simple
Systems- a set of connecting parts working together that form a "whole"; interconnecting networks as in: circulatory system, skeletal system, muscular system, digestive system, and nervous system
